This week's Perennial, Life and What Else, is the 34th of what will be 52.
We've still got a ways to go in this project, but for the first time, we can see the finish line, distant on the horizon. As we set our sights on the final creative stretch, we wanna take just a quick moment to marvel at and reflect a little on how much can happen over the course of a year. Since we excitedly, exuberantly, and rather nervously released 'For a Lifetime' on September 4th, we've weathered hurricanes, blackouts, and blizzards. And we've faced an unwelcome number of tragedies and challenges, both personal and private, as well as national and public.
Being able to bring our friends and fans a new song every 7 days has certainly not been easy. But it's been a steady, reliable, guiding beacon that's helped us navigate some dark and uncertain moments over the last 8 months. In a way, Life and What Else is about living through some of those moments.
Here's Paul on the tune: 'Life has a way of thwarting our expectation in surprising ways. Sometimes we cling to things, afraid and despondent. This song is about facing those fears, and about trying to take some control, despite how hard it can be. Its a slow waltz of a song, that continuously builds to a moment of release and acceptance. Special thanks to my wife Stella who wrote the lyrics to this piece!'
In addition to this month's non-profit partner Old Town School of Folk Music, we'd like to bring your attention to a charity that has been set up to help one of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, Marc Fucarile. Marc is a relative of a long time friend of JSS and he could really use your support, whether it's a donation, prayers, or thoughtful good vibes.
Thank you, as always, for listening,
